Analysis of Professional Insiders

This week (April 7 - April 11), the escalation of Sino-US trade tensions and frequent policy changes have led to cautious overall trading in the rare earth market, with prices of mainstream products fluctuating. PrNd products struggled to sustain high-price transactions, resulting in a weak price trend. Meanwhile, medium and heavy rare earth products saw some high-price transactions in limited quantities, driving the overall price center upward and showing a relatively strong trend. Currently, the rare earth market is marked by intense standoffs between upstream and downstream players, with trading volumes for mainstream products remaining limited

On April 4, China imposed export controls on seven medium and heavy rare earth elements, including samarium (Sm), gadolinium (Gd), terbium (Tb), and dysprosium (Dy). As the world's largest producer and exporter of rare earths, this policy directly tightened the global supply, quickly sparking industry concerns about reduced domestic demand for rare earth products and expectations of rising international prices due to potential shortages. This week, prices of mainstream rare earth products showed significant divergence. PrNd prices declined overall, primarily due to market anxiety over supply and demand triggered by the export controls, with sentiment weighing on price trends. In contrast, medium and heavy rare earth performed more actively, with most mainstream products trending upward; driven by expectations of tighter supply under the export restrictions and heightened market anticipation of their scarcity.
